Artist's Description
This painting depicts the offerings that are given to Pele, the goddess of Kilauea on Hawaii's big island. This area is now closed to the public due to recent volcanic activity. "Appeasing Pele" got into the 2008 Paint America 2nd 50 and also won the Jack Richeson award at the Pastel of Society of Northern Colorado's pastel extravaganza.
About Mary Giacomini
I love the outdoors, hiking and finding peaceful places. My artwork is inspired by places I've been to and would like to return. I enjoy getting "lost" when creating my art and recreating a scene I'd rather be in. I've been a professional artist for over 25 years but have been an artist my entire life. I've always loved to create. I earned a BFA in studio arts, have taken numerous classes & workshops over the years and have a wonderful support system of artist friends. Since I live in Colorado, many of my paintings reflect this area. I enjoy working in oil, pastel and watercolor.
